Brain dump

What exactly is a brain dump? Well, on the days I have artist block because there’s far too many things on my mind it helps to write it all down somewhere. Sometimes I write it down inside my art journal and then I can create on other pages. And we’ll, if I don’t like it there I can always cover my words with a collage later. That’s the beautiful thing about collage and art. The things you can do are without limit.

Being an artist is great. It’s the one area in life where I don’t have to follow the rules and I can jot down, write down, or doodle anything I want in my journals. What do you do when you have artist block?

Be yourself and don’t worry what others think.

That moment when your scars are exposed and its ok.

This is my story and I hope you find encouragement to be you. Be you and don’t worry what others think. My neck is cut across the front from one side to the the other with burn scars. This is from cancer, radiation, and the removal of my tongue from cancer. I got my hair cut and the scars were exposed more than when my hair was long. For the people who notice my scars or my speech who are rude, I understand the problem is not mine but it is their ignorance and I know I’m blessed to be alive. So Its okay. Without a tongue I sound like I’m deaf when I speak and Its okay!

Devotion

Standard

We can’t fully devote our hearts to God and keep our mind and body for our own purposes and desires. Sometimes I enjoy using my art journal as a journal to document my faith and stages or seasons in my walk.

Therapy in Art

Standard

Journaling and doodling coloring pages is my therapy. I started doodling to find relief from chronic pain after cancer treatments. I found great relief. It took my focus off the pain and on something more positive. I started turning my art into coloring pages for others who need therapy.

I always loved writing in journals. I kept a journal of documented miracles and revelations from my bible studies. The real fun was found when I bought my first moleskine. I fell in love with the quality of the journal and thickness of the pages. I love books. I love to flip through a book and the smell of the pages. A bookstore is absolutely one of my favorite places to be for that reason and especially one with a coffee shop and the aromas of coffee brewing. Beginning an art journal soon became my new addiction. I fell in love with keeping a journal and documenting memories. I started going to therapy this year to help cope with the anxiety and depression that come with chronic pain after cancer treatments. Yes I said it, and I’m not ashamed either. A lot of people have anxiety and or depression and denying it makes it worse. My therapist encourages my art therapy through positive journaling. Ive started keeping positive quotes and uplifting stories in my art journals. I’ve found this to be most therapeutic and hope to bless and inspire others with my journals. I’ve saved each one full of my art, special memories with my daughter and other children when they visited and trips and dates with my husband. One day long after I’m gone these will become my daughters treasures. An art journal is something I would love to inherit from my mom. My daughter and I share a love for art and have a special bond. I know one day she will be so happy to inherit these journals and flip through the pages and see the detailed art and memories. If you create in a journal, what do you do with it when your done? Do you have plans for your journals? Do you keep detailed personal memories?

Art Journal Inspiration

Standard

I found some older art journaling photos and wanted to share some of the pictures from my old moleskine. This was by far my favorite moleskine. It has the most colorful pictures of all my art journals. Do you ever go through different phases and look back through your journaling and remember what you were doing when you were making that journal? I had increased pain but I loved doodling and filling the pages with words and stories.

My favorite story I love sharing is my love story. My husband and I have been married six years this year but we’ve known each other since we were in kindergarten. He’s my superhero and my heart. “I want to get lost in this place” was making reference to my art journal. I was so in love with doodling on the nice thick moleskine pages. It brought me comfort during days when chronic pain was more than others. With increased pain I found comfort in this journal. Do you have a favorite journal or favorite spread? Can you remember what made it special? Please share.

Dream big Art Journaling

Standard

Dream big work with diligence and make dreams happen. A good life quote to meditate on for the next month. Add positive quotes and fun doodles with some collage art inside an art journal and have a photo memory book to look back on when you grow old. It will be fun one day to look through all my old art journals. What do you do with your old art journals?

Wisdom

The owl represents wisdom and the butterfly represents change and growth. Personal growth is important. Also important, taking authority over your thoughts, your words, and your life. Stay in His word and listen to positive words for a positive life. I always enjoy Joyce Meyer and her teaching.

Grow Old With Me

When I grow old, I want to do it with you by my side. God prepared my story long before I was born and he included you in my story. I am so thankful for a God who loves me so much to include such an amazing husband in my story. With you, my dear it makes our story a fairy tail with a fairy tail ending. He never promised it would be perfect and its not. But, it is close and that’s more than I could have wished. Thank you God for my husband and our time together in this life.

Art Journaling

I love to mix my art journal with fun inspiring quotes, bible verses, and sometimes I add personal prayers to my art journal. Most of all I love adding color with various materials and some collage from old magazines. IMG_20160419_151418Most of the time I insert the date and add either something personal about my day or something I would like to use to encourage or inspire others like an inspirational quote. This particular page was made on a cool day in the early spring when I was in need of a warm vacation. It was officially declared spring and it snowed the same week here. Journaling with art helps promote good health and happiness, especially when winter seems to take longer than it should. What’s in your Molskine??
